Special Issue on Advances on Automation and Robotics

Automation and robotics play a major role in outer space, home, farms, industries, hospitals, defense etc. Be it for research and exploration purpose, education, entertainment or disaster mitigation, automation is very essential. Robot control is a key competence for robot manufacturers and a lot of development is made to increase robot performance, reduce robot cost and introduce new functionalities. The development of industrial robots is characterized by a multidisciplinary fusion of a large spectrum of technologies. Many of these technologies are not specific for robotics and can be developed from solutions in other much larger product areas. However, robot control and then especially robot motion control, is very specific to the robot product and constitutes one of the most important key competences for the development of industrial robotics. By applying and developing advanced control, it is possible to continuously improve the robot performance, which is necessary in order to increase performance and lower cost of industrial robot automation.
The scope of this special issue is to promote research and development in the area of automation and robotics. This issue is reflecting the growing spectrum and recent developments in automation and robotics around the world. This issue will provide a unique opportunity for the academic and industrial communities to address new challenges, share solutions, and discuss research directions for the future.
